SZIU’s Latest Success in QS Ranking

According to the latest edition of QS World University Rankings (QS-WUR), Szent István University (SZIU) has significantly improved its performance by being positioned between the 801-1000^th universities of the world. It is the first time SZIU has been ranked in QS-WUR and it is the fifth best result among Hungarian universities.

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the world’s most respected higher education rating companies and an analytics network that connects universities, business schools, and students globally, published QS World University Rankings 2021 on 10 June 2020. The ranking was based on the performance of 1,604 higher education institutions in 93 countries. Six indicators are taken into account to compile the ranking: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, international student ratio.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has been named the world’s top university for the ninth consecutive year, the next three ones are Standford University, Harvard University and California Institute of Technology. The fifth one is a European university, University of Oxford.

Eight Hungarian universities are present in this influential global ranking: University of Szeged (501-510), University of Debrecen (521-530), Eötvös Loránd University (601-650), University of Pécs (651-700), Szent István University (801-1000), Budapest University of Technology and Economics (801-1000), Corvinus University of Budapest (801-1000), and University of Miskolc (801-1000).

SZIU’s best indicators are faculty/student ratio (394th place) and international student ratio (433rd place). SZIU has 9.8 lecturers per 100 students, while the world average is 8.1 and the proportion of SZIU international students is 14.4%, while the average of the listed institutions is 10.6%. However, the university still has indicators to be improved, namely citation per faculty and the proportion of SZIU’s international lecturers.
